Vse Jame in Nijame lahko prakticiramo na telesni, besedni in umski ravni. V trenutku, ko ne izvajamo nasilja nad okoljem smo telesno v skladu z Ahimso(1. Jama, ne- nasilje). Če naše besede še vedno posegajo v zasebnost drugih, če žalimo soljudi, potem Ahimse na besednem nivoju ne prakticiramo. S kultivacijo samega sebe praktikanti postopoma razvijamo bolj umirjen, spoštljiv način komunikacije. Sama evolucija pa posameznika lahko pripelje do te mere, da se tudi nasilni miselni procesi ne odvijajo več. Z njihovo uporabo praksa pridobi veliko količino energije, ki nas očisti od znotraj. Smisel bandh je torej manipulacija z energetsko sliko praktikanta. Treba je razumeti, da je naš energetski potencial razpršen in le redko zbran v točki. Po obroku, se del našega potenciala usmeri v prebavo (to energijo imenujemo Samana), ko je obrok prebavljen, se aktivira energija izločanja Apana. Tok apane je usmerjen večinoma navzdol.
